A 70cc dirt bike can go as fast as 50mph. The average maximum speed in the industry is a little lower, usually clocking at 35mph. However, those speeds are often theoretical since there are a number of factors that determine how fast a dirt bike would go in practice. Such factors include terrain, engine type, riding experience, and bike mass.

Terrain
Riding terrains are not made equal. Some may be pure sand, others may have pebbles in the sand. Still others may even be describes as a bit rocky.
The type of terrain where your kid rides their 70cc dirt bike plays a major role in how fast it will go. You’d agree that if the terrain was rocky, you’d want your child to be more careful.
Moreover, a rocky terrain obviosuly slows down a bike as against a smoother surface which would aid the bike peaking in speed quicker.
Therefore, even if the rated maximum speed of your dirt bike is 45mph, the terrain may keep the actual max speed at 30mph or lower!
Engine Type
The combustion mechanism of a dirt bike’s engine also affects its maximum speed. A dirt bike is either 2-stroke or 4-stroke combustion. Can you guess which would go faster?
If you’re guessed 2-stroke, you’re absolutely correct!
Two-stroke dirt bike engines are faster and reach maximum speed faster than their four-stroke counterparts. Wouldn’t it take longer to count from 1 to 4?
So it follows for combustion in bike engines. While a 4-stroke engine goes through four stages to complete one power stroke, a 2-stroke engine needs only two stages to complete one power stroke.
Hence, if you’re looking to push the speed limits, go for a two-stroke 70cc dirt bike.
Riding Experience

Look I don’t want to go that techy. Just know that the more the cc, the more the power output. And in turn, the more the speed. That’s why a 125cc dirt bike goes faster than a 70cc bike!
