You woudn’t ride your dirt bike without pants on. But what’s the proper length for this essential biking gear? Are dirt bike pants supposed to be short?
Let’s ride together to draw an accurate conclusion.
Are Dirt Bike Pants Supposed to be Short?
The simple answer is No! Dirt bike pants shoud not be short. There’s a reason they’re called dirt bikes. You ride them on rough, “dirt”, terrains. If your pants are short, any exposed flesh above the boots is open to bruises and cuts, or far worse. Usually, you’d tuck your long pants into your boots when dirt biking.
When riding a bike, either for fun or competitvely, the rider’s comfort is paramount. But more importantly, safety should be prioritised. And dirt biking can easily become dangerous because of the rugged terrains involved.
There’s abosultely no reason to keep your biking pants short if it’s dirt bike.
Additionally, I would recommend wearing compression pants or shorts under the long outer pants. WHile this is not compulsory, compression underwears would provide an extra padding to protect the groin area in case of a fall.
Also, please ensure that the pants fit perfectly on you. You don’t want them too big not to tight. Generally, you should be comfortable in those pants and at the same time feel a sense of protection.
You may have to try out a number of pants before settling for one that works for you. On no condition should you sacrifice safety for comfort, however!
Where to Buy Dirt Biking Pants
Motorports has a large supply of pants to choose from. Snce it’s online, you may have to take time to measure yourself and match with what’s available online.
If you’re buying from a local physical store, you’ll have the luxury of trying them on before making a purchase.
Summary
Pants for dirt biking must be long, never short! This serves to protect your legs and knees from injury given the types of terrain you’d be riding on.
